Easy Mack runs Auto-Town, forty-three acres of mangled car, a titanic scrap lot in Jacksonville, Florida. His daughter, the redheaded leatherclad Junell, drives a supercharged eight-ton towing truck as she blasts from crash to crash in the rubber-burning hunt for the family specialty- total wrecks. Her brother, Mister, operates the hungry crusher that rams the shattered four-wheeled tombs into bales the size of suitcases before they go to feed the yawning furnaces up-river. But Mister's twin brother Herman is the dreamer of the family, and it is Herman who sets out to undertake the supreme challenge, the final consummation of America's tempestuous affair with the internal combustion engine. Herman will not merely destroy his next car: he will eat it.
